As we delve into the heart of the Holidays, the season of giving can easily slip into the season of gaining if you don’t nab your health choices in the butt. There are simple ways to avoid the dreaded weight gain that often comes with the Holiday hustle and bustle. While you are enjoying your family gatherings and holiday work parties, keep these simple tips in mind and avoid having to add to your New Year’s resolutions.
Snack before you party. To avoid over-indulging at a Holiday party, have a quick (healthy) snack before you head out. Entering a party on an empty stomach is dangerous for your waistline. Do yourself a favor and eat prior to party time. This will allow you to enjoy the treats at the party in moderation.
Consider a healthy option. Bringing something to the party? Forego the easy and convenient unhealthy snacks and bring a veggie plate (or some other kind of calorie-conscious dish). Providing a healthier option will give any party more variety and better options for everybody.
Don’t drink your calories. As tasty as that eggnog might be, it’s loaded with calories. While you can’t avoid holiday cocktails completely, just keep in mind how many calories each drink contains and limit your intake. Many of your favorite holiday concoctions pack in more calories than some meals. This is not to say that you can’t enjoy a few libations; just be aware of the calories and drink responsibly.
Skip the seconds. Go ahead, fill your plate! It’s ok to indulge over the holidays. After all, this is the one time a year you get all the traditional family recipe fix in’s. But when you fill your plate, limit yourself to just one trip. Your pants buttons will thank you later.
Taste the sweets. Saving room for dessert? When you hit the sweets, just go for a taste. This will allow you to enjoy the wonderful seasonal treats without going overboard. If you don’t allow yourself these little treats, it could wear down your will-power and wreak havoc on you after.
